The first thing that was taken away from the Aztecs were their religion. This includes their ceremonies, traditions, sacrifices, customs, and belief of their gods. Every Aztec was baptized as a Christian, excluding those that ran away. They were given new "Christian" names, Hummingbird's being Maria de Belen. Hummingbird got upset when Father Benito asked for her real name, raising her voice for the first time, then giving him the silent treatment. She tells him that she has been robbed of everything, including her name. She was offended when Father Benito considered Maria to be her real name.

Well the Spaniards enforced basically everything on the Aztecs. They tore down their temples and made them give up their beliefs into many gods and believe in only one god. They also took away their names and replaced them with new Christian names and baptized all Aztecs. They took away their sacrifices and dances and ways of marriage. They took away all their culture and replaced it with the Spaniards. Huitzitzilin is very angered by this, she hates the Spaniards and she believes they arrived just to ruin her life because they deprived her of everything she knew as she was growing. She believes they "came and infested their land."

This was everything about the Aztecs and their religion. The religion of the Aztecs were about their ceremonies, traditions, and the belief of god. At first the Aztecs were baptized with the Christian religion but eliminating the ones who ran away. When the Aztecs were baptized they were given a Christian name, so hummingbird was given a Christian name which was Maria de Belen and humming bird was upset because FatherBenito told her what was her real name. When they did the baptized they would take away their sacrifices and dances and how to get married. The bad thing is that now they took away the Aztecs culture and replaced with the spainard. Hummingbird is really mad that they replaced with the spainards and now hates them. Now Hummingbird believes that the spainards came to infest their land.

The Spanish took away everything that the Aztecs. They took their religious by baptizing them with a Christian name. "That you have a Christian name.. You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything, even my name." Father Benito asked he about baptized name because he know that his people gave her a name. Huitzitzilin tolled him that his people took everything from her even her name. That she didn't had anything that shows that in the past she was a Aztec. This is why Huitzitziln hated the spaniards, because they destroyed her religious and that they interfered with her land.

Father Benito’s people (the Spanish) have imposed their beliefs on the Aztec society because they have changed their traditions, beliefs, and ceremonies. They changed their the Aztecs beliefs of many gods to their belief of only believing in one god and the ceremonies they would do to concubine someone basically they changed everything from their nation. They have even changed their name into a Christian name. When Father Benito asks Hummingbird her really name she gets really upset because they have taken away her name and decided to name her Maria de Belen. When the Spaniards arrived every Aztec was baptized with a christian name She says "You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything, even my name."

The Spanish basically took away and modified everything the Aztecs had, from religion to teachings except for those that escaped the Spanish. The Spanish even changed the Aztec's name, even for Huitzitzilin, but she dislikes having her name changed. "Mar-ri-a-a-a! She shouted the word. Its vibration crackeled with irritation as it echoed through the silent cloister halls." This tells me that Hummingbird dislikes having that name. Also, before Father Benito Asked Hummingbird about her Christain name, she talked about the Spanish taking away their religion and traditions of their ceremony. And now those traditions and religions of the Aztecs are replaced with the Spanish culture ever since the Spanish took over the Aztecs. Now that I have read this story a little more, it is very clear that the way the Spanish is changing the Aztec's culture is was she described as the Spanish "infesting" their world.

One of the main things that the Spaniards took away from the Aztecs were their religion. This meaning that they were not allowed to practice their traditions being sacrifices, ceremonies, and the gods they believed in. Also they were baptized Christians and were given new names. Huitzitziln christian name was Maria de Belen. When Father Benito asked for her name the second time she screamed her name at him. This shows that she is not happy that they had to change her name. She felt that she had been robbed from everything she knew about herself.

The Spanish invaded Aztec in a unbelievable way. Due to the fact that the Aztecs believe they were god , just because they were white men. As Father Benito and HummingBird have their conversation, it is brought up how her people thought they were some kind of god. Which I think made it easier for the Spanish to invade the Aztecs. Which kind of makes sinces. Due to the fact that their religion was what was taking out of them first. In page 63. It Benito says ‘’I want to know your Christian name ‘’. This shows how the Spanish change their name for religion . As you can see , one of the main thing that the Spanish change from the Aztecs were religion.

In the book Song of the Hummingbird the Spaniards conquered Huitzitilians land. When the Spaniards arrived on the land they completely changed the way the Aztecs lived. They altered their religion, traditions, and government. The Spanish made the Aztec people follow their way of living by forcing them to become Christians and quit performing their tradition. The Spaniards state that the previous Aztec way is demonic and unethical. "No! Don't mention the idols!." The quote shows the fact that Father Benito can not speak of the old Aztec religion. As a result, Huitzitzilan despises the Spaniards for taking away the old traditions.

So basically the Spanish came over to Mexico and took away all of the Aztecs things and believes for example they came over to Mexico and took away their religion and worshiping temples. The Spanish also imposed a new language on the Aztec's. In addition after the Spanierds invaded the Aztecs they imposed new goverment and traditions. The Spanish invaded Huitzitilians country and renamed them. The Spanish thought they where doing a good to Huitzitilians community, but on the contrary the Aztecs hated the invasion.

The Spanish conquered the Aztecs in a way that again affected Hummingbird. The spanish changed the way the Aztecs believed and all of there opinions. They took over there minds basically. They also made them changed their tradition and religon. The spanish made the aztecs go christain. She had to go from Maria to Hutzitzilian. THey made her a complete different person. Thats what hummingbird did not want to talk about it. She was hurt because all of her basically diginity was taking away because of the spanish people.

After reading chapters 6 and 7 from the book Song Of The Hummingbird, by Graciela Limon, we can see that the Spanish, Father Benito's people, took a lot of things from the Aztec society, beginning with their religious beliefs. They had baptized every Aztec person, and gave them a new Christian name, excluding the people that were able to get away. For Hummingbird, her new name ended up being Maria de Belen. The Spanish also ended up taking away the Aztecs traditions, and ended up changing their type of government. Based off the way Hummingbird reacted to all this (she raised her voice at Father Benito and seemed upset), you can tell she didn't like what the Spanish people did to her old town.

The Spaniards have affected the culture of the Aztecs mostly religiously. In the beginning of the chapter we get an understanding on what the Spaniards did to the Aztecs once they came to Mexico; they would baptize the indigenous people and even give them different names. Huitzitzilian told Benito " Don't you know that we were all baptized by your missionaries?" Huitzitzilian was bothered by the whole idea. I based that on her reaction towards her Christian name given to her by the Spaniards. " Ma-ri-a-a-a!" she shouted her name out in anger when father Benito asked her to repeat her name. This chapter mostly focused on how much the Spaniards affected the Aztecs.

The thing the Spaniards took away from the Aztecs was their religion. Instead of the Aztecs believing in many gods, the Spaniards enforced them to beleive in only one god. The Spaniards also took away the names of those of the Aztecs and gave them Christian names and also baptized every Aztec. The Spaniards also replaced the Aztec's ways of living, for example, their sacrafices, dances, beliefs, etc. This invasion affected Huitzitzilin. According to her words, she believes that the Spaniards," came and infested their land."

The Spanish have taken the Aztec's traditions and religion which include the ceremonies, beliefs in their gods and sacrificing a person. The Spanish baptized every Aztec and gave them a Christian name."That you have a Christian name . . .You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything, even my name." Father Benito must make sure that Hummingbird is a Christian in order to take her confession,we see Hummingbird believes the Spanish took everything away from the Aztec even their identity. The Spanish have give all the Aztec a new Christian name and Hummingbird's name is Maria De Belen. When Father Benito didn't hear what Hummingbird said she answers him with "Ma-ri-a-a-a!" She shouted the word. Its vibration crackled with irritation..." We see here that Hummingbird disliked the name.Hummingbird hated the Spanish for the invasion they did.Even though the Spanish believed they brought salvation to the Aztecs for Hummingbird they infested the life she knew.

Since this happened the Spanish also impose the people to follow their religion, their culture, their language, and baptizing the Aztecs to have a Christian name. After reading chapters 6 and 7 of Song of the Hummingbird I found out that the Spanish people took over the Aztec’s land. Another thing that the Spanish people took away was the beliefs of the Aztecs. The Aztecs used to be polytheism meaning that they believed in many gods and then the Spaniards made them turn monotheistic. They made them turn monotheistic and become Christians and they took away the Aztecs names by baptizing them.

In chapters 6-7 of Song of the Hummingbird the Spaniards basically baptized all the Aztecs with new names that were Christians. As had said in the reading," ‘Don’t you know that we were all baptized by your missionaries"(pg.61). Another thing that that the Spaniards took away from the Aztecs was their cultural beliefs such as in their marriage, sacrifices, and dances. The Spaniards even made them turn into Catholics and they changed their beliefs of multiple gods into a single one because now they were Christians. Huitzitzilin believes that the Spaniards arrived to just take away their style of living life. Overall she despises them due to that all Spaniards changed their lives and style of growing and thinks that the Spaniards "came and infested their land".

Father Benito and his people (the sSpanish) have taken many of the Aztec's society beliefs and traditions. The Spanish invaded the Aztec people along with their beliefs and traditions. The Spanish enforced their beliefs and made the Aztec people abandon theirs starting with their polytheistic beliefs. The Spanish thought their believes were related to the devil and therefore imposed their monotheistic beliefs on the Aztecs. The Aztecs where also stranded from their names and were given Spanish names along with being baptized. Hummingbird beliefs the Spanish stole their identity as an individual and as an empire. Hummingbird says to Father Benito, "You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything, even my name?" Hummingbird was not happy of all the changes the Spanish people brought with them.

In chapter 6 and 7, the Spaniards basically imposed their beliefs on the Aztec society by persuading them to be baptized with Christian names. The Aztecs were not just forced to be baptist with different names, but they were forced to believe in Christianity, monotheism instead of polytheism.Although the Spaniards thought that they did a good thing "saving them" as they said they did they practically destroyed the Aztec's culture and beliefs. Huitzitzilan detest all the Spaniards for conquering the Aztecs' land and persuading them to believe something that they did not believe like in monotheism- believing in only one god instead of many. The Spaniards really impacted the Aztec culture because soon after that the Aztec culture began disappearing even now they are still some Aztecs left, but there aren't as many as there was a long time ago when the Spaniards conquered their territory.

In the book, Song of the the Spanish imposed their beliefs on the Aztec society. An example would be when Father Benito asks Huitzitzilan for her Christian name. "No! Not the bird name! I want to know your Christian name." Here we see that Father Benito expects her to tell it right away because the Spaniards gave them a new name changing their traditional name. It shows that the Spaniards have changed their traditions. Huitzitzilan looks at the Spaniards as people that just infested into the Aztec society by imposing their beliefs in the Aztec society.

In the novel, the Spaniards came to over take the beliefs, costumes, and rituals of the Aztec people. The Spaniards came into the land to alter their way of living. "What a pity that you have taken those practices away from us, because you have not given us anything to replace them." As we see here Huitzitzilan expresses her thoughts towards the Spaniards in not so harsh words. Huitzitzilan explains how the Spaniards took away the costumes of the people and did not leave them with anything else to practice. They stripped them from their rituals and left them empty. She feels as if they were having their many year experiences or practices taken away from them quickly. As we also see in the questioning of Father Benito to Huitzitzilan he tries to change her name. " ' I want to know your Christian name." ' Maria de Belen." As we see here Father Benito tries to change Huitzitzilan's name. Father Benito, a Spaniard, tries to change her name and she gets mad as she sees that they still try to change what naturally belongs to them. Huitzitzilan does not have the best view towards the Spanish as they tries to change their costumes, beliefs, and rituals.

There were many beliefs that the Spanish imposed on the Aztecs, when they conquered. As we read Chapters 6-7 we find out what are those beliefs. For instance, the Spanish imposed the Aztecs to release themselves of their "savaged" ways. This included to release themselves from the believes of many gods to turn monotheistic, and only cherish the one God the Spanish so deeply glorify. But that wasn't the only thing that the Spanish deprived from the Aztecs, "...You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything even my name," (Pg 62). This spoke by Huitzitzilin after Father Benito asked her what was her Christian name, because like you guessed the Spanish even made the Aztecs rid of their real names. We find out that Huitzitzilin's Christian name is Maria de Belen, but when the Spanish conquered the Aztecs they had to be baptized, and get another name because according to the Spanish the Aztec names were of the devil. As I read on I believe that I will get to see more of what happened to the Aztecs when the Spanish conquered, and also the other many things that the Spanish also took away from the Aztecs and their cultural ways.

The main way that the Spanish have affected the people is by going into religious rituals. They stopped the worship of idols that once were worshiped and condemned speech of any such figures. An example of this is the higher priest informing Benito to stop Huitzitzilan from talking of such. Similarly, people have taken land and destroyed the people through their actions, mostly through disease and corruption. This, in turn, is evident from the struggles faced by Huitzitzilan's people to strive. She is a rarity and people still talk down about her, showing the beliefs that came in with the arrival of Conquistadors. It is fairly obvious that Huitzitzilan hates the way that the Spanish think, Her sighs when talking to the Father and criticism is a clear example of the hatred she points to the people. One of her smartest ways of thinking is the realization that despite everything, for the better or the worst, a race was still destroyed, a problem that she thinks causes more problems then people realize.

As we continue to read Song of the Hummingbird we can elucidate that the Spanish people imposed their beliefs and traditions to the Aztec people. They forced Aztecs to adapt the religion of Christianity and baptized all Aztec people and gave them christian names. They demolished their temples and put up signs of their gods." Don't you know that we were all baptized by your missionaries?" This indicates that all Aztecs were baptized. Huitzilzitzilan was not so proud to be an Aztec, she doesn't believe as what Father Benito thinks that they were "saved". She actually believes the opposite, she likes her religion and hates that she cannot idolize her gods and is forced to idolize a god that she does not approve of. Huitzitzilan is disgusted by what the Spanish people imposed on them, she found he rituals beautiful and enchanting. Even though Father Benito called them satanic rituals, that were summoning the devil.

When the Spaniards conquered the Aztecs, they removed their culture, traditions, and religion from them . The Spaniards then imposed a new religion for the Aztec to be able to "save" them from satan. The Spaniards baptized all of them and gave them christian names."No! Not the bird name! I want to know your Christian name"(p.63) Hummingbird doesn't like her christian name. She detests Spaniard for removing her religion and "infesting" their land.

Father Benito and his people have imposed their beliefs on the Aztec by forcing them to believe in what they do. In chapter 6 of the novel, Song of the Hummingbird, Father Benito acts in a angered way when Hummingbird mentions the gods and religion of her people. He then tells her that she must forget about her religion and become more of a Christin. These tells is that the Spaniards are already with ge ideology that their religion is the best and most pure, that is why he considers Hummingbird's religion to be unholy. I believe Hummingbird is beginning to accept Father Benito more even if he's a Spaniard because she considers his devotion to his religion that she tries minimize the mentioning of her religion while conveying he past. Finally, she is beginning to respect and accept him more because he is showing interest in her past and she knows that he is just being committed to his religion.

As I read the two chapters , I saw that the Spaniards had basically altered the Aztecs beliefs , religion , culture and traditions. The Aztecs we baptized with a christian name . For example , the old women's name was changed to Maria de Belen . This made her really furious . She even shouted , "Ma-ri-a-a-a " . This showed how she was mad due to the fact that the Spaniards had taken over them . It was easy for them to conquer them because they saw those Spaniards as gods , just because they were white, pale , and transparent. She even said ," You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything , even my name " . This also demonstrates us readers that the Spaniards took everything away from them . Father Benito was just amazed and shocked to what the Spaniards had done to her people . He simply loved hearing new information he wasn't aware of. The Aztecs were taken over by the Spaniards and they took away their religion , beliefs , culture and tradition.

After reading chapters 6 and 7, I've learned how the Spanish has imposed their beliefs on the Aztec society. The main three things the Spanish changed were religion, and traditions. For example religion, when Father Benito asked "Senora, are you a baptized Christian?" she responded "Don't you know that we were all baptized by your missionaries? It was done in groups of dozen, even hundreds." Basically, the Aztecs made them Christian, and they even took away there name and gave them a Christian name. Traditions, the Aztec people believed in many types of gods, and the Spanish called them "demons" instead, now the Aztec people could only believe in one god which is Jesus Christ. Huitzitzilan dislike the Spanish people for taking everything away from them, even there name. She sad angrily "You mean you have to make sure that I have been robbed of everything, even my name." This means that Spain has impacted the Aztecs lives harshly, but the way the Spanish see it, they "saved" the Aztecs.

Father Benito's people imposed many beliefs on the Aztec society. Some of the beliefs that were talked about in chapter 6 and 7 were that the missionaries forced the Aztec people to be baptized or christened. Other things that the Aztecs had to sacrifice were there idols and their language. Huitzitzilan does not agree with any part of this because as she states in chapter 7 on pg.79 "Our world terminated the moment the first white man set foot on our land..."
