In the article "An Ugly Toll of Technology: Impatience and Forgetfulness" the author Tara Parker Pope argues that using the internet is having a negative effect on people who use it too much. Pope supports her claim by alluding to researchers who say that internet use can eventually change into an addiction, abusing internet use can cause people to be more impatient, forgetful, and even more narcissistic, it may cause a withdrawal with family and friend relationships, and that dependency on the internet can even be due to a psychological problem. The author wants to inform us that we need to decrease time spent on technology and stop becoming so addicted to it because it is unhealthy and may even have the ability to change you; also to point out how much our generation is starting to forget nature and is starting a technological revolution. This is kind of like Fahrenheit 451's theme, people turning into mindless zombies and forgetting that people and nature exist. The author writes in an informative, professional, cautious kind of tone to warn internet users not to overdue it and that they should try to cut back because internet addiction has serious consequences.

Tara Parker in her article "An Ugly Toll of Technology and Forgetfulness" (June 6, 2010) discusses how today's lifestyle with technology is making us dependent on them. Tara explains the findings of some psychologists. According to them, electronics like cellphones and computers are giving us a shorter attention span, a shorter temper, and a new personality. Not only that, but they wear down patience and make the user forgetful. Wether or not this is true, it is a fact that people have become dependent on electronics for everyday things. Teens of today should read this article and be aware of how often they use electronics. Who knows? Maybe it will make them hang out more with their family and friends.

Tara Parker-Pope in the article, "An Ugly Toll of Technology: Impatience and Forgetfulness,"(2010) claims that technology is making people lazy, impatient, impulsive, forgetful, narcissistic, and it makes us neglect our family members and others around us due to our immense addiction to it. Pope supports her claim by bringing in various evidences from various sources to point out the effects of technology and its impacts on people's lives. For example, in the article, it states "When I did not have [Texting and I.M], I felt quite alone and secluded from my life." It seems as though people are relying too much on technology and without it, they are lost, and that is not how it is supposed to be all the time -- Young adults should be "out there" doing things on their own and meeting people on their own and not always relying on technology. The author's purpose is to show that although technology can be helpful, it can also hurt some people in a significant way and that it can completely reshape someone's personality and their attitude and how they will eventually see life and that some individuals need to be aware of that so that they can "hang out" with their family members every once in a while or do something other than burn their eyeballs out using technology. The author writes in a contemptuous(disapproving) tone for the many people out there who use technology.

In the article, "Ugly toll of technology: Impatience and Forgetfulness" by Tara Parker- Pope, she argues the fact that the internet has given us a very negative impact on the ways that we live. Parker supports her argument by bring up reliable sources like researchers who support the way she thinks. Some researches state that electronics are giving us shorter attention span to anything around us. It is like the option to play outside or be inside on Instagram. It's sad knowing that most teenagers will indeed choose the second option. Their whole world reflects on a little electronic which basically holds all their life. I feel like teens now should read this article and really see how technology now is slowly taking over the world. Soon the world will be like the movie iRobot.
